Description

For each of the past two summers, over thirty students at the School of Law have worked in public interest placements, including legal aid organizations and in government agencies. The students advocated for seniors and people with disabilities who were threatened with eviction, victims of domestic violence, emerging adults with special education needs, indigent defendants, individuals discriminated against in employment, and immigrant children. These placements are critical for our students to gain both legal experience in public interest practice areas and ultimately to secure employment in government or public interest legal offices.

For many of our students, this work is not possible without the additional support of generous alumni and friends. Many students who receive public interest stipends are leaders at Loyola Law where they contribute significantly to volunteer opportunities and serve as members and officers on a variety of teams, journals, and student organizations.

Why are donations necessary?

These students are important members of our public interest law community, bringing their experience to their student leadership positions and to their classrooms. Your support of our students furthers our law school mission by promoting service to others, educating our students to become compassionate lawyers, and preparing graduates who advocate for justice and equity and lead efforts to advance social justice and dismantle structures that sustain racism and oppression. Summer public interest work contributes to a deeper understanding of systems of oppression, furthering our students' commitment to public service.

If you would like to support our students, please consider a donation to our program!
